University of Washington
History
The University of Washington School of Medicine Latino Medical Student Association chapter began to form early in the summer of 2005. Alberto Ruvalcaba, a UW medical student leader, had a vision of creating a strong Latino presence at his institution. With the support of Maria Verduzco and Miriam Castro, LMSA came to life at UW. Their dedication has inspired many of their counterparts to join the cause and help address health disparities that exist in our communities through outreach and community service. This chapter was officially recognized on April 7th, 2006 at the 22nd annual LMSA Conference hosted by the Stanford School of Medicine.
The UW school of medicine is a dynamic place where students, physicians and other allied health professionals serve areas of need, such as rural towns, inner cities, or developing nations.
