The American Medical Association (AMA) has a multitude of scholarship opportunities from $5000 to $10000 for currently enrolled medical students. In particular, the “Minority Scholar Award” is for 1st and 2nd year medical students from historically underrepresented groups in the medical profession. Ten Minority Scholars Awards are awarded annually, each in the amount of a $10,000 scholarship. You must be a current first or second-year student and a permanent resident or citizen of the U.S. Eligible students of minority background include African American/Black, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino. Each medical school is invited to submit up to two nominees.
Talk to your dean’s office and be sure that they are aware of this award and are nominating up to 2 students a year for this award.
