The Latino Medical Student Association has an obligation to the LGBTQ population. This LMSA LGBTQ-A (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, and Ally) sub-committee is created with the hope of sparking a conversation about issues affecting this sub-group of the Latino population we as an organization serve. This sub-committee will serve as a source of knowledge for all future latino physicians regarding LGBTQ-A issues, raising awareness of LGBTQ-A health issues specifically affecting the latino population, creating a social network of LGTBQ-A latino pre-medical student, medical students, residents, and physicians. Overall, we hope to give LMSA a strong voice in support for this marginalized and underserved population of Latinos.
We are a group of extremely dedicated members of LMSA who happen to be LGBTQ-A (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, or Straight Allies) who would like to make a difference. The Causcus focuses on several activities throughout the year including (but not limited to):
Email JJ or Sarah to be added to our listserv. There are always research projects or new initiatives happening. We are also here to support anyone who has ideas on how to improve the health of LGBTQ Latinos in their own communities.
